Default hx40 or hx35/40 hybrid??

I am looking into turbos to replace the hx35 in my cummins. I have heard good things about both the hx40 and the hybrid but I would like to know if the 40 would have to much lag and would like to know how much hp the hybrid would support. I plan to put in 75hp sticks, p-pump conversion (reliability only, not racing application) and airdog 150. Any info would be extremely helpful.

hx40 is a lag pig. i got my truck with a hx40, bought a stock hx35 and build a hybrid. spool up is like night and day, less smoke, lower egts. the final power output is the same, you just get there quicker. highly recomended. i believe a hx35/40 would support 350-400hp before having to upgrade.

Maybe yours was. It depends on the combo. My HX40 spools as quick or quicker than the hybrid it replaced.

I am also very curious of how much power the hybrid will support?? or what injectors you would run with it??

Claims of hybrid turbo capabilities are greatly exaggerated.

hx35/40 does nothing to address the poor exhaust flow.

We offer a Brand New BORG WARNER K27 with a billet 60mm compressor wheel that is a direct replacement. Its brand new option and works with exhaust brakes that use the v-band clamp.

If this is true then how did it lower my egts 150 degrees?

I will explain how a 35/40 is made

A 35/40 is an hx40 compressor wheel with a compressor cover modified to fit the larger wheel and machining to the back plate. Nothing is done to the turbine housing as stated.

Getting a fresh rebuilt turbo alone could account for lower temps. There is a small amount to gain from the larger compressor wheel, but it still has the salesman turbine wheel. Same exhaust housing and only wstegates the front 3 cylinders leaving the back 3 which tend to run hotter anyways with no way to receive excess exhast pressure.

I maintain that the 35/40 is a poor option for the money compared to others available (ie s300 with dual port wastegate). If you talking about a Chinese 35/40 like on eBay.... Well $350 is hard to beat, but It's not tier 1 by any means.

I built mine for 75 bucks and its 100% holset. And no machining was involved as I had both turbos to make the one. Say what you want, the hx35/40 Is a good cheap upgrade in my opinion.
