Ok I just got a really good deal on a smarty so3 gonna put it on an old 01 3500 2wd 6speed I just came across. Don't know a lot about the smarty I have heard good things just wondering what should I really expect out of it. The trucks set up decent brand new injector pump and raptor lift pump triple disk clutch and a big home made cold air and 4 inch straight pipe. It'll be a few days before I'm home and can hook it up so just thought I'd ask. Thanks and its good to be back haven't been on here in a while feels great to be back in a cummins!

Without tapping the pump wire which a smarty doesn't do the most you will see is 65hp over stock. It is still quite a bump but not the most you can get, something like an Edge J/A, Edge Comp, or a Quad Adrenaline can give you 120hp-180hp over stock.

The smarty has a lot of nice features like enabling high idle and calibrating speedometer for larger tires. All in all not a bad programmer for a vp powered truck but nothing compared to what a smarty can do to a 3rd gen.

Ok so I know that they aren't always totally truthful in the advertisements but if the max it will put out is like 65 hp then how do they get away with the huge numbers they state on the websites? Something like 40 to 170 hp? Is that what you can do if its stacked?

Anything anymore is a fabrication of the truth, I know somewhere it says the actual hp gained in their literature. But don't get me wrong they are a nice programmer by themselves and they create a great stack with an edge or quad.

So whatcha think on a stack don't wanna spend a fortune I know where I can get an edge easy for like 200 bucks would that be enough or just bite the bullet and go buy a comp. Iv got some 125 sticks but am holding off until I can afford a new turbo before I put them in.

An Edge EZ is the same way as the smarty it doesn't tap the pump wire either. So the most you would see is 65hp over stock. Stacking has mixed results some people say they gained some hp while others says they lost some. The smarty fuels hard down low and the edge comp or A/J fuels pretty hard on mid to top end. If you do decided to stack make sure to run the smarty on even numbers without timing. Because the edge increases timing and too much timing can do harm.
