I went to price putting gaskets on front of my motor 1900.00. Then the mechanics said my blow by was getting bad. He said it will probly be scored cylinders. Which he might have to bore out the cylinders and put bigger pistons. Would it be better to do this or put a 12 valve in it. 02 cummins

What gaskets are you replacing? On the blow by issue, are you getting white or blue smoke out of the exhaust?

 

I went to another mechanic and he quoted 500 max. I went back to the other guy and asked for a parts list it was timing cover gaskets, timing cover, and silicone he said 725.00 for these parts 1000.00 labor.

 

Is the timing case busted? Sounds like the two mechs are not quoting the same thing. I know there is no way i would pull a cam and change the gasket behind it for $500 its alot of work.
