Default turbo (again)

in the proccess of replacin the head gasket, or oil cooler, not really sure yet... i discovered that my turbo has a tiny bit of in and out play... awesome. 2 months after the 1 year warranty ran out. won't make that mistake again. but anyway, its not really doin that great of a job keepin my egt's down so im thinkin about somethin bigger. i just need some input. check my sig n let me know what it can handle. it'll be gettin o rings also

something with a 14cm housing maybe a bigger wheel depending on what you use the truck for. im looking at a 68mm wheel and personally wouldnt go bigger than a 71 and would not plan on towing with it at all with the 71mm. those #'s being turbine wheel sizes.

is your truck a play truck or a work truck. if its a work truck stick with what youve got, just buy a bigger housing so you arnt so choked up. you will gain a few hundred rpms of usable power. its hard to beat that as a towing single

i used to tow with it quite often, but no so much any more. with the lift n tires its more of a toy now. for some reason the numbers 64/71/14 popped into my head. not sure if thats too big. i feel kinda dumb when i start talkin turbos haha.

that size is a super B special and can be ran as a single. it will be much laggier than your current blower but will have a much bigger top end.

How much play? Take a dial indicator and find out how much thrust play you have. Call dtech and ask what is max thrust play. Is there any evidence of oil out of the seal? Im not saying excessive thrust play isn't bad but my turbo with 570k has thrust play but its still good. up and down play is bad.

no up and down play is fine. these are journal bearing turbos, the engine oil takes up the space once oil pressure comes up eliminating the up and down. to much in and out is bad. there should be none or very close to it.

Depends on how much up and down play; but by the time up and down play is bad I don't think you'll have to question if it's good or not. You wont have a problem guessing it's bad . Basically a turbo isn't excessively worn as long as you don't rub the housing. Can be sloppy as all get out but as long as it doesn't rub or have a "stiff spot" turning it's still fit for service.

Yes all jorunal bearings have about .002 of up and down play. Anyone who is complaining about that little bit of play up and down or in and out is dangerous with the little knowledge they have. In this case the only danger would be to a wallet
