for those wanting to build hx35/40 hybrids

if you've been researching you've probably found the htt stage 3 compressor and wheel upgrade. puredieselpower has it for 315

I found this site today that has the following:

Compressor Housing for HX40 HX40W 61.00mm Bore Polished by BAE

Compressor Wheel for Holset HX40 Super 40 4035879 59.50mm Inducer - 86.00mm Exducer

i dont know the quality of their parts but they seem reputable. this gets you the desired, higher flowing 7 blade hx40 wheel and a polished housing for $100 less than the "stage 3" upgrade. i had a hard time finding this so I figured I'd help others who were looking to build a hybrid.

Anyone run this set up? What were the results or gains over the non hybrid like how much egts drop and what kind of spool up?

i had one before my super 62 i loved it did great towing just not as big as i wanted at the time

So is this upgrade really worth it without doing anything on the exhaust side? Really thinking about doing it as it fits my budget over a new turbo!

From everything I have heard the 6 blade is the highest volume wheel.....

lodal cummins 02-05-2012 11:28 AM

How many blade is the hx35 and this setup is a 7 blade

i've heard that people like the 6 blade because it has a loud whistle but that the 7 blade is the desirable wheel. that's why it's used for the super 40/35 hybrids and why it's a little more expensive. but they have the 6 blade and 8 blade wheels too.

its worth it if your budget is tight and your not interested in making a whole bunch of power. it will still be choky in higher rpms but will flow a bit more air down low. egts will go down but not significantly. its an improvement but not a big one.

Well thats a bummer! I knew it was not going to be a big power maker but maybe its best to save for a new turbo, but crap they are spendy. But maybe i will do it right the put the hx35 on the 92:humm:
