for those wanting to build hx35/40 hybrids

if you've been researching you've probably found the htt stage 3 compressor and wheel upgrade. puredieselpower has it for 315

I found this site today that has the following:

Compressor Housing for HX40 HX40W 61.00mm Bore Polished by BAE

Compressor Wheel for Holset HX40 Super 40 4035879 59.50mm Inducer - 86.00mm Exducer

i dont know the quality of their parts but they seem reputable. this gets you the desired, higher flowing 7 blade hx40 wheel and a polished housing for $100 less than the "stage 3" upgrade. i had a hard time finding this so I figured I'd help others who were looking to build a hybrid.

Great find and thanks for passing it on for others to check out. Nice to seee a ford guy helping us dodge guys out :tu:.

Anyone run this set up? What were the results or gains over the non hybrid like how much egts drop and what kind of spool up?

94cummins12v 02-03-2012 04:03 PM

i had one before my super 62 i loved it did great towing just not as big as i wanted at the time

lodal cummins 02-05-2012 10:54 AM

So is this upgrade really worth it without doing anything on the exhaust side? Really thinking about doing it as it fits my budget over a new turbo!

Fox 02-05-2012 11:23 AM

From everything I have heard the 6 blade is the highest volume wheel.....

lodal cummins 02-05-2012 11:28 AM

How many blade is the hx35 and this setup is a 7 blade

93ford 02-06-2012 08:14 AM

i've heard that people like the 6 blade because it has a loud whistle but that the 7 blade is the desirable wheel. that's why it's used for the super 40/35 hybrids and why it's a little more expensive. but they have the 6 blade and 8 blade wheels too.

turbo2332 02-06-2012 08:58 AM

its worth it if your budget is tight and your not interested in making a whole bunch of power. it will still be choky in higher rpms but will flow a bit more air down low. egts will go down but not significantly. its an improvement but not a big one.

lodal cummins 02-07-2012 05:57 PM

Well thats a bummer! I knew it was not going to be a big power maker but maybe its best to save for a new turbo, but crap they are spendy. But maybe i will do it right the put the hx35 on the 92:humm:

93ford 02-07-2012 07:52 PM

a non wastegated 14cm exhaust housing is $200. though at that point you have $450 spent on a hybrid, which could be put toward a good used turbo.

lodal cummins 02-07-2012 07:57 PM

Yeah i hear ya just trying to find a good used turbo can be a challeng. How many extra ponnies does that hybrid give ya and what kind of egt drop 50 to 100?

turbo2332 02-07-2012 08:36 PM

thats about impossible to guess. it will help but not much. a 14cm housing will let you rev higher with a few less *'s on the pyro

lodal cummins 02-07-2012 08:51 PM

Guess i will just keep looking for a REAL turbo upgrade not that the hybrid is bad but i guess i want a little more. Thanks for your input:tu:

monster12valve 02-15-2012 08:13 PM

hybrid will support 450hp with decent egts if u dont tow heavy...atleast in my experience

lodal cummins 02-15-2012 11:12 PM

Well on the poor guys budget it might have to work as I've been bombing my 92 and trying to save for a tripple disk as well, new piston lift pumps for both trucks blah blah blah it never stops!!!!!!:dang:

did you actually dyno 450? or you think it was near that? and what was your hybrid setup?

mtbcummins 09-13-2012 10:32 PM

This is all great info!
Does anyone know if a kit like this requires any machining work or is it bolt and go?

RAW 09-13-2012 10:40 PM

Machining is required, have a look at this:

Awesome info thanks!

I should be receiving my 60mm super 40/35 from BAE in the next few days... I almost went for the newer 62mm inducer but decided against it for some reason... Just didn't want to see the little shaft support that extra weight/boost. I have bad enough luck with turbos anyway. Decided to go this way mostly because I need to keep my 3" downpipe and exhaust in my car. Seemed the best fit for it, as most other turbos will take me to 4"

Now just vote for me in the truck of the month competition and maybe I can get some injectors to replace my stock 160's. =D

Fox 09-24-2012 11:29 PM

Well heres your answer...

Just came in tonight. Installing tomorrow. Looks gorgeous.

That looks great. I think I'll have to try the 62mm upgrade kit. I think this will work good as a top charger when I go twins.

lodal cummins 10-06-2012 10:53 AM

What was the price tag on that set up?????

It's $195 on the site.

Shawn63200 02-21-2013 07:34 AM

Bump on an older thread. How did this work out? Worth the $$? Junk parts that did not fit?

Fox 02-25-2013 06:57 AM

I love mine. Been running it since first post above.

Dynoed out at 360 hp. And that is on stock 1994 160pump injectors with 200,000 miles on them... so they are most likely a bit clapped out if I say so myself. Washered governor springs. Have to get a 4k gsk soon. (anyone have one layin around? :hellox: )
