if i remember right (its been a few months) i have a little stiff spring a pretty stiff bigger spring and the stock idle spring i do very much believe EVERY spring kit utilizes the factor idle spring for drivability reasons. (which is the big outer spring) and i am for positive i have a 4K spring kit. no binding everything went together flawless. what else could it be?

Buy a new kit and install it, set protrusion at .50 from washer top to stud top or .120 from grove to stud top. You obviously have a spring pack issue if the shims are installed correctly and the idle springs were not removed and reinstalled without the shims. What is the height of each spring?
Is everything else up to par? Fuel pressure and such

ya the truck is up to par and runs great the way it is just a far cry from 4k and there were no shims that went with this kit. and i have to take the pump apart to measure them. do you think i could shim the little spring out a pit to pick up some rpms?

You could shim but it can make tuning them in core correctly a real pita. I install 4 or 5 kits a week and have never had issues with trucks that were stock, but have had issues with pumps that had been shimmed or had the washer mod installed. Hence why I recommend not installing washers. All but the idle springs are replaced, and in 4k kits you install the smallest inner spring. Some pumps had different configurations of springs, mores-so pumps that had governor replacements or had been to the pump shop. Is there a chance you accidently reused your inner springs instead of the springs with the kit

take it back apart... USE NO SHIMS start with nothing in the pump install you factory (largest) idle spring and then you largest spring that came with 4k gsk then the middle spring then the smallest... then tighted down your nut till u feel 4 clicks... bar engine over and repeat... call me with any ?s 1 620 277 8992
