Engine: $1000-$10000 depending on what goodies you put in it
Transmission: $1000-$7500 depending on man/auto and what goodies you put in it
Driveline: $100-$1000 depending on what condition your current stuff is in

Making 500 hp isn't too hard or expensive, but MAINTAINING that horsepower for any sort of time is where the money starts burning fast. For instance, 500 hp is useless unless you can get it to the ground, which means a stronger clutch or better slushbox internals, then you want good tight driveline and the right gears and strong enough axles... Sometimes it's best to THINK backwards before you build, and only push your engine as far as what everything BEHIND it can handle. Then you'll spend less downtime with smoked clutches, broken input shafts, or blown head gaskets... Just my $0.02

Motor blows oil out of the dip stick. If I could just get an overhaul for now would make me happy. So maybe 250-300 with the money I have at the moment.

Sounds like blowby, which means new rings at the least with possibly a melted piston. If that's the case, you'll need a full overhaul kit with all the bearings and gaskets and possbily new pistons which tends to run roughly $750 or so for the kit....that's not including labor or additional machining cost. But, that's just my guess...

that like asking how much for a hooker?

search for a rebuild kit price, I reccomend a genuine Cummins kit. if your doing the work, labor is free, If you are not doing the work, call some shops get some quotes.

is the oil level high? visible blow by, is ccv blocked?

40 hours labor x's $100/ hour, plus parts and machine work. Sounds about right...

40 hours to disassemble and reassemble an engine?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

5,000 should include removal, rebuild, basic machining reassemble, and reinstall. 5,000 for labor is SUPER HIGH!....atleast around here.

While where you live that may be true, but my labor rate is 150$/ hour, if you want Jose at bubba's truck shop to sweat all over your rig while "disassembling and reassembling" your engine that's fine, but if you want a factory trained technician to rebuild your engine with a warranty. You get what you pay for, too many hacks out there...

Edit: if you do the math I calculated, it was 4000$ for labor, 1000 for parts and machine, with a total of 5000
