ok i put and hx40 on my 96 5spd. i did a test comparison between the hx40 and my hx35 with the same mods going up hill pulling no load
hx35-egts 850 fifth gear going 65mph boost 15psi
hx40 60/60/16-egts 1200 fifth gear going 50mph boost 10psi

the main reason i did the hx40 was to lower my egts while towing because my hx35 would get warm on me going up hill pulling a load.

my ? is why does this hx40 heat up quick and runs way my egts than my hx35. i wouldn't be able to tow any thing with this 40 because the egts are wild with out a load behind it.

my hx35 i could hit 32psi max and this hx40 i can only hit 19psi max why and it fills like i lost power and it smokes really bad know to

 

check the play in the shaft, look to see if the compressor wheel is hitting the housing. also try plugging the wastegate (temporarily) to see if theres any issues with that

 

there is no more shaft play in it than my hx35. i was thinking that to plug the waste gate.
hey i see you put some more mods on your truck. what day are you going to the dyno. i think i am going on Sunday.

ok want out block the gate off and took in for a run and i hit 30psi at 2500rpms but it still smoke bad so i rolled the star wheel back a turn and now it doesn't smoke as bad and boost a little faster. it must be something wrong with the gate and the reason for the smoke must be that it being a bigger exhasut housing its spools a little slower. but the way i had it it run good that way with my hx35.

 

not real sure what day im goin, depends on work. if it wasnt so far away i'd go both
