Default HX35 rebuild questions (maybe a 35/40 hybrid)

Who can rebuild one of these HX35's and how much does it usually cost for a rebuild?

And also how much more would it be to make it a 35/40 hybrid?

Thanks guys

probally just be cheaper to find a better used 35, some say you can rebuild them yourself with a rebuild kit that you can get for like 60-80bux but i have never tried, you can get the 60mm compressor and wheel for like $350 and make it a hybrid

if you want a hybrid i would just find a hx 40, take it apart and put you 35s main shaft and exhaust fan in the 40 center unit, use the 40 compressor and wheel and put the 12cm hx35 exhaust housing on, you end up with a hx40 with a quick spool 12cm exhaust housing i did this on my truck and it worked great, i just use a slightly larger 14cm housing

I used to rebuild turbos. Typical price back then was $285-$325 to rebuild a turbo. That was a disassembly, cleaning, new bearings, rings, etc, balanced, reassembled. 1 day turnaround.

I still rebuild them for people from time to time, but I don't have a balancer.

Ummm I already have a 35 on my truck so why would I need to find a used one

Alright this second paragraph you wrote..... isnt that exactly what the hybrid upgrade kit is? the kit consists of a comp wheel and housing, which attached to the exhaust housing and turbine of the 35. sounds like the exact same thing to me, without having to buy a whole HX40

WHY? you can get a brand new Dodgezilla 35/40 hybrid for $730, and Ive read nothing but good reviews about it.

What kind of person/company would generally rebuild one (i.e. who should I look up in my area)?

So one more question guys..... even if I buy a upgrade kit (with compressor wheel and housing), if I have play in the shaft I'll still have to get someone to rebuild it right? Because Im assuming that the kit includes ONLY the wheel and housing.

Thanks again guys

I have heard one can just use the compressor wheel and housing from a 40 on the 35's center section. Some machining is required to allow the 40 wheel to fit on the 35 shaft and center section, so I have heard.

Like I said, isnt that basically what the hybrid kit does? It includes the 40's comp wheel and housing, and you mount in just like you stated. And with all the kits they also say machining will be required for it to accept the 40's wheel.

I sure hope it works that way. I removed a HX40 from a Cummins engine on a piece of forestry equipment. A very odd failure on the turbos part. The exhaust housing and center section became loose from one another, yet all the bolts were still tight. The compressor wheel and housing are still in great shape though. I was able to buy the core of the turbo for $168. Not a bad investment to get a HX35/40 hybrid.

the reason i said find another 35 was beacuse i assumed yours was toasted because your were asking about a rebuild,

2nd i said find a 40 because you wouldnt have to get it machined to make it all work, on mine i found a old 40 that was laying around a shop that was missing the exhaust housing but was still in great condition, and used those 40 parts with 35 parts i had laying around so the whole turbo cost me $0 to build except for the fact that i bought a 14cm housing for $100 a few months later
