Default New with questions

Hey guys, I've been reading Bombers for awhile and just became a member as I bought my 1996 Cummins 2500 5.9 12v. The truck has the posi-locker 4x4 but it's not engaging the front axle. The truck gets stuck in my own driveway. it only smokes when i really hammer on it. It has an auto trans and really only has power in the 3rd gear right before overdrive. I think it has aftermarket 4.10 gears and I'm looking into getting 3.54's What size do I need to know for the pinion and gears? Picked it up for $4800 with only 160,000 miles. I've read all the stickys and all the new guy stuff but I'm still a little foggy about the star screw and fuel plate stuff. Any advice and good things to do as a new owner would be more than welcomed. I do have a boost guage but not exhaust temp or trans temp. Thanks

first off welcome to db
second, the posi lock, try rolling the truck some to engage it

third, if its all stock it wont smoke much at all

fourth, y do u think it has after market 4.10's

fifth, since its an auto, as long as no one has swapped the rear axel, the rear is a dana 70 and front is a dana 60

sixth, before u go messin with the pump, it sounds like u need some trans issues fixed and gauges

I'm from the Dayton area. and I'm assuming the gears are 4.10 because the RPM's are about 2600 at 70 mph. the top speed is 80. i dug into the posilocker this weekend and found that the axle is shifted. It is about 1/2 inch from sliding the collar over the shaft to lock it in.

Where is the best place to buy new gears? 3.54 in a Dana 70 for the back and 3.54 for the Dana 60 in the front

there not talkign bout people sponsoring ur vehicle, there talking bout the site sponsers giving u a price they can get them for. on the home page of db here, there is a forum called price request, u say what u want, and it will send a mass pm to all the shops that sponser db, and they will give u a price on what they can get it for you

Ohhh. That makes more sense. I was thinking that a company would sponsor my parts in trade for advertising on the truck. Thanks!

welcome to db, tuning the p7100 is simple take the afc of lossen the screws move the plate foward and turn the star wheel so it goes forward to lessen spring tension, smoke screw is on the back of the afc i think theres a cap over it... cant remeber tho., o and get a boost elbow for the burbo and a big air filter, i got mine from auto parts 2790 for like 30$,

and get boost and temp gauge if ur going to tune her up a bunch, and save money for a tranny, cuz stock tourque wont hold much over stock, i got mine to slip the day i got her


and take the silencer out of the turbo
