pre turbo/ post turbo pyrometer
so we all know pre turbo gives us the most reliable reading for EGT'S. go post turbo and add 400 degree's to get same reading as pre turbo. was reading alot of big rigs back in the day were loseing turbo's cause of pyometer probe breaking off, and now they go post turbo so they need not worry about that costly repair. i know they bounce around alot and go tons of miles but this just made me think. chime in!!!!!!
Since my trucks are modified I want the most accurate reading. Losing a $250 turbo is better than a $3k rebuild due to melted pistons etc. Big trucks generally are left stock their whole life so getting a ballpark figure post turbo is ok, at least thats how it was explained to me. I think the material used to make the probe today is better than back in the day.
all of our semis are post turbo, true most semis are left stock. i always worry about it coming apart pre turbo so ive got mine post turbo. i dont run it extremly had and dont have too many mods done but all in all i have to agree pre turbo is the way to go even tho ive got mine post...
