You know, I dont think that is a half bad idea. I mean yeah I am running a gamble on doing the drive without fixing it, though I do not have the part to tab it, and I really dont have anywhere to do the operation before i move-

It would make for a long trip if she drops but odds are reasonable that you will make it home..

Wanna feel better?

I paid 3,300+ bucks for the repair, where 1,200 were for the case only! - Of course, this was in Germany, hence every piddly part needed to be ordered and shipped from the US, and shipping cost, VAT and customs fees were a significant chunk of cost.

Good luck for a cheap repair
and greeting from Germany,
Tom

If you need to pinch pennies, I think Ebay would be your best bet on parts. There is a guy in Arkansas that takes in wrecked trucks and tears them down to the bare block. I am sure he will have the timing case and cover in his warehouse. I think his Username is Redliner or something to that effect.

Sorry to hear about your luck, but at least it happened at once, and not like 2 weeks apart. That would have really ticked you off.

The first time the dealer put the screws to me for 1000.00 the second time I fixed myself w/a welder hopefully it will not happen again in the tranny.

Hey i Saw this pop back up so i thought i would chime in and tell you what i ended up paying.
I had the work done at a local diesel performance shop. I had the timing cover replaced, the timing set to 16.5 degrees, a cruise control vacume line replaced and 5th gear welded back on. He charged me $900. I thought that was a decent deal, what do you think?
