build for the future
I just bought a 1996 12v 4x4 manual to do a conversion into a 1997 f-250 460 4x4 auto. While we have the motor and tranny im thinking of suring it up. I want the truck to eventually have 500-550hp, single turbo, going to be a DD, with towing and 1/4mi couple times a year. I am not going to do any performance mods until I get the conversion compleatly done but I am thinking about shuring it up while its all out. This is what im thinking and I would like your guys opinion.
Valair clutch sd NMU70119-04
5th gear nut
60lbs spring- is there any down side to this before doing 4k spring?
head gastket and bolts
kdp had already been done
I want to have a solid base and not worry about it breaking down I drive from central tx to south florida and have to be reliable.

woulddn't recommend that all ceramic clutch for towing. its do-able but its rough and damn near impossible to back a trailer up. i have to use 4-low. 5th gear nut is essential for a solid base. no the springs wil be fine before the 4k gsk. if it still has the stock headbolts and headgasket i would just buy some arp 12mm's and leave the head on and replace the stockers 1 by 1. that should handle you up to about 55 pounds of boost. and if you run more then that i would say to get it o ringed.
with all that you will have a great base to start building up on. sounds like you will have a great project. you should start a thread on the build

it depends on how much $$$ you wanna spend an how much you will actually tow. the ceramic will hold tons of power and you can tow with it, its just not easy cause it will not slip at all. its either in or out. so if your gonna tow alot you should go with a DD. but if you dont have any money like me go with the ceramic its a good clutch but it will take time to get used too. hope that helps.

For a good double go with valairs ceramic rigid disks. Don't sled pull it the ceramic won't hold up. Also to fix 5th gear you will need a full splined main shaft but as we have found out the counter shaft/ 5th gear cone is very weak. Do not for any reason powershift lug or generally beat on 5th gear. IT WILL BREAK.
