I would go with somthing like this. Has a little more engineering than a BHAF.

I love my BHAF!!! Ive done 531 hp with this intake on my truck

me too run that with the old smokey mount on my 1st gen and going to run a BHAF on the puller too!

Don't waste your time on a BHAF if you are not going to properly enclose/heat shield it. The added intake temperature more than cancels out any gain in airflow as far as power production is concerned. You won't need that much air unless you are making 400HP anyway. The stock 1st Gen filter is rated at 450CFM, so good up to around 300HP. They were better flowing filters than what came out on the 2nd Gen's. The airbox is the restriction on a 1st Gen, and they can be fairly easily modded to increase "cold" airflow. It sounds like you already lost the stock setup somewhere along the way.

Prolly like a AFE Pro5R filter on a custom intake tube and relocate my battery box. So i am sucking air right at the front on the truck

I agree with the heat schield as well, I'm just goin to make one out of the sheet metal... Still cheaper than most options

ya when ya do make a plate a 1in gap and another plate
