Good Realiable Towing Setup
I just got a 1997 3500 Cummins Dually 4x4 sunday. I had a 1993 cummins D250 with air dog 100, 1-2 turn's on fuel screw, 3200 rpm spring, 3" DP to 4" straight to 6" stacks, converted to NV4500 from auto, pyrometer, boost, tach, oil psi, water temp, fuel psi and tranny temp gauges, etc.. So I understand most about the cummins and modifiing them, but am new to having a P-pump cummins. So im looking for a good towing setup, i would like a nice amount of horsepower for get up and go, make hauling a trailer that much easier, keep good mpg(I know its mostly about my right foot, which can be light and can be heavy at times), and would like to not have to watch my egt gauge at all times(I know to keep an eye on it no matter what, but you guy's know what I mean).
here's what I plan on doing no matter what:
BHAF(just need napa part #)
5" Straight pipe(its stock exhuast right now with muffler/cat delete)
Pyro/Tranny Temp/Boost/Fuel psi
Air dog 150 or 165gph(its got a holley blue fuel pump hooked to factory lines right now)
Also the truck is to have a monster tranny installed feb. 2010, guy has recipts and is said to hold good amount of power, He has a dyno sheet for tranny that say's handle or rated at 280psi line pressure I believe or something like that will have to check in the A.M. Guy spent $3600 on tranny. Tranny feels good, but having to go down to my tranny guy tho, as the tranny takes awhile to shift and kinda got to let off on throttle to shift to OD, but just thinkt the new TPS needs adjusted and also looks like the braided line is coming apart, so might need replaced.
Alright guy's well let me know what yall think would be a good towing setup.
Was thinking Super HX40, 4" DP, 5x12 or 5x14 Injectors, fuel plate, 4K gsk, AFE or CFM boost elbow ,etc..

your headed in the right direction, could be a tps issue, suggestion i have is skipping the hx40, and moving to an s300, such as industrials super phat shaft 62/71/14, or 64/71/14, would supply plenty of air, and they make great turbos for towing. or you could look into a set of twins for towing. get ready for fun with a p pump

Ya it just seems like it stays in gear for a long time. Taking off it revs to 1800 then shifts to 2nd after a few seconds, then stays in 2nd till like 40-50mph unless I slightly left off the throttle then it'll shift threw the rest of the gears normal like. So once i add more power it should straighten out maybe? Dropping it off at tranny shop thursday and hes going to tell me if its setup to shift late or if the tps needs adjusted, etc..

save your money on the cfm or afe intake elbow the stock one will do just fine. i also think you would like a 62/65/12 instead of the s300g
