i just traded for a 97 12v. this is the first diesel i have owned. it has a blown tranny. i dont wanna drop a bunch of money into replacing it. the truck has a shaved fuel plate and 75 hp injectors. will a stock auto tranny be alright in this setup?

it depends on what your gonna do with the truck. A stocker is really not a good choice, IMO do it right the first time and you will not have to worry about it later.

swap to a 5 speed or build up your auto

almost everyone on here is going to tell you the same thing. stock tranny is only good if your truck is completely stock and your not drag racing it

Spend 3-5grand for an auto that can hold up, or swap to a 5spd with a good clutch that can hold up.

A stock auto with a modded pump and sticks is NOT going to hold up.

First question. What are your plans for the truck?

^With 75hp sticks and a fp, I'm not so sure it matters.. floor that thing a few times to merge/getting cocky at stoplight etc and "pop, goes the weasel..", if you will...
