12mm is standard, if it makes a difference i will be installing 12mm ARP studs on mine when i get the head finished, 14mm requires the block to be drilled re-tapped for the bigger stud IIRC.

post up in the price quote forum and you will get quotes from many of the sponsors here. they will give you some of the best prices on the internet.....

That is not true a good flowing head makes a heck of a difference in a diesel motor.

i wasnt tryin to say it wasnt needed but does it make as much as a dif. as it does in a gasser?

Generally any mods done to diesels make 10x the power than doing the same thing to a gasser.

In short, yes.

my goal is to make around 500hp with the pump what do you guys recommend
I recommend a deep wallet.

Nothing wrong with a 160 pump it would make 500. I would not swap 215 plungers into the 160 pump, you would be better off keeping everything as it is but swap in a cam from either a 180 or 215 pump.
I agree with Dave and would add to have a good reputable pump shop do the work.

twins
Not needed to make 500rwp with a 12v,however,it would manage the smoke alot better.

but they make it sooooo much easier to make 500hp and be streetable and gives the ability to tow heavy...... try towing heavy with a single big charger..... it ain't fun..
Twins do make 500 alot easier to attain on a 12v,that I would agree to.towing with a big single charger is not all that hard,it just takes a different driving style and the user knowing what he has and yes it can be as fun also.

would like to stud, o ring, and put the 60lbs springs in. is that overkill or not enough?
As Dave stated, thats enough to get the job done and is not overkill.

Tranny...
This is a MUST have to make 500.All the added fueling mods and turbos in the world will do you zero good if you can not lay it to the ground.

I have a good tranny for sale with a tripple disk a suncoast valve body and a manual valve body billet shafts good clutches and steels. Only thing is it is a 47re
Doesn't matter if its a 47RE if you have a manual valve body. The O/D and Lock-Up would then be controlled by a toggle switch and thus eliminate the need for any transmission eletronics.

also be ware that not just anyone can port a diesel head. there is more to it than just making the ports larger. the ONLY reason i am letting this guy do mine is because i KNOW he knows what he is doing..
I disagree with that as anyone can port a head, diesel or gas.The best way to have it done is to use a good flow bench and see what helps or hurts the air flow when your porting. To watch a good head porter work and flow your head is like watching a artist paint a masterpiece.A head that flows more on a diesel will not only allow for lower egt's but a more efficent air charge which will help the power numbers come up.You are right about that Green truck being fast though.

BS!

It will allow for a hp gain but it will never allow for 10x the amount when compared to a gasser.I'd love to know where you pulled that figure out of and its easy to see why you had so much trouble with your truck with comments like that.

500RWHP can be attained with a 215 pump with the right mods and done in the right order.Your transmission should be the first work that gets done, then the headwork and then your pump and turbo. It may not be what you want to hear but its the best way to do it.Remember that 500hp with a 12v means it will be a smoky ride and there is nothing that can be done to prevent it.Its a known power level plane that many of us have crossed and have seen the difference in exhaust emissions because of it.Twins will help lower the smoke
or keep it maganagable but it will not clear up,you just have to find a way for your right foot to moderate it.It can be done but it will take alot of discipline to do it........Andy

cumminspwr11 05-09-2010 01:42 AM

yep i got the order down already, after i have destroyed a few trannys, just seeing what each step is gonna need and whats best to do, thanks for the input its all greatly appreictiated

last ?s for now, hows the few milage at these power levels? i know most of it is how you drive.. i do tow alot, almost weekly, anywhere form 10K to 20k but im definately going with twins so it shouldnt be too much to worry about

Obviously that was an exaggeration.

why would you install 181 DV's? the 130's out of the 160 pump actually flow more....

93ford 02-01-2012 08:59 PM

this thread is almost 2 years old :tttt:

Yea I noticed after I posted. LoL. I was reading up on what was a decent cam grind for the P pump.... oh well.
