It's when you take clothes pins and attach them to the compressor wheel to make sure it doesn't fly off Duhhhhh

Dan...
Easiest way to expalin what your asking about is like this....

Look at the back of your HX40 and you will notice the compressor cover is held in place by a snap ring.To pin the cover you must machine the backing plate to accept to pins to hold the snap ring in place. Its NOT something the average guy can do at home and you have to be very careful on how its done.We have a local turbo shop here that does them for the guys out here who run those chargers.

just curious, why does it have to be so precise? just find a way to keep the snap ring in place?

You need to place both of the pins as close to the snap ring as you can to ensure a tight fit and no chance the snap ring will come out under pressure. To drill the center section to get the pins to fit you must also make sure you do not go to long and it hits the back of the compressor wheel and you want to make sure your pins have no chance of coming out.
