Default What pressure will I see if I plug the wastegate line?

I've heard that some pumps can't even fuel enough to max out the stock turbo if you plug the wastegate line coming from the wastegate.

If I grind a 100 plate for my 180 pump and plug my wastegate line, will it be enough fuel to build over 35psi? I don't have any mods which would effect anything other than what's in my sig.

I'm just curoius. I have a cheapo TurboXS bleed boost controller that I plan on throwing on, but if I can't even make too much, then what's the point really.

there is no need to plug your wastegate. i tuned my pump for full rack travel and could hit 40 psi if i wanted to. but your not doing any good pushing the stock turbo past 30 psi.

if you pulg the line you should hit over 35 with a 100ff and a boost elbow. What you should do is drill out the wastegate and use an adjustable boost elbow. this way you can control max boost and your drive press will not be off the charts.

i dont think you would get much over 35 with the 100 plate, im running plateless and a gutted afc and i cant hit 40, but i would put a boost elbow in,

What do you mean by drilling out the wastegate? Are you talking about porting the flapper opening?

I already have a boost controller to put on it. What you guys call a "boost elbow" is just a regular boost controller. The "boost elbow" style might be slightly better than the bleed I have, if it has a ball and spring in it also, along with the bleed. The ball and spring just helps on spoolup a little.

I currently have no plate in the truck right now, but not going to drive it hard until I get a boost and egt gauge. But I have gotten on it to check the smoke and there is none when in boost. I haven't touched the wastegate yet, so I was suprised when there wasn't any smoke without the plate. It may just be that I need to tune the AFC some more, but the only tuning I'm going to be doing until I get gauges is reducing my preboost fuel to get the smoke away. Once I can tell the boost pressure and EGT, I'll be playing with the boost and fuel to get more power safely.

I was just curious if the stock 180 pump can actually fuel hard enough to make the turbo overspeed/overboost with the gate plugged.

And to comment on the above post about 30psi max, that would only hold true on a HY35 with the 9cm housing. I have a HX35 which comes stock on my truck and has the 12cm housing. 35psi is about the limit for efficient boost pressure on it.

Yes I ment porting the flapper opening.

Also a 180 pump can flow some serious fuel, so yes it can overspool a hx35 with a pluged wastegate. You are correct on your smoke issue, your afc needs to be modded to take full advantage of running plateless. IMO if you tune your AFC right you will not need a fuel plate, if done right the truck will run silky smooth through the entire powerband.

You should also look into a mack rack plug for you ppump, there $12 and will allow an extra 2mm of rack travel if you plate/afc set up allowes. It is one of the best bang for your buck mods you can do, only down side is its kind of a pain to install.

Thanks, I'll look into the mack rack plug installation. I thought it might be a pain, that's why I havent persued it much.

I have already modded the AFC foot and diaphram washers so the AFC can have full travel, though I might need to check on it again. ~17psi made it travel to the stock location and ~35psi is full travel on the foot, but from 17-35psi it seems to bind some when travelling.

Thanks for the info!

did you mod the barrel? if not grind .090 off the end, this will allow full travel. As for the mack plug some grind the timing case and others ( like myself) unbolt the pump and slid it back to get the plug out and in. Only down side to that is you have to retime the truck, but I would rather retime the truck than ruin my timing case.

here are some pics, the mack plug is under the top hose ( and behind my second fuel inlet).

The top is a stock afc foot and the bottom is the modded foot with .090 taken off the barrel.
