Default 24 valve head on a 12 valve block.

Is this swap possible, I got a buddy who put a p7100 on his 01 24 valve and is pushin 500 or so hp with this swap, a bigger turbo and some sticks. So could i put a 24 valve head on a 12 valve block or should I get a 24 valve motor and swap my p7100 into that? thanx in advance.

sure it can be done but a piston swap will be required becuase of the piston bowl placement

ya. my buddy built one without changing the pistons. didnt work very well. it would idle fine but as soon as you rev it up it would backfire. i told him b4 he started but he knew more than me so he sunk $1500 into a pile of mismatched parts.

There is a LOT to putting a 24v head on a 12v. There was just a thread on this. WHY would you want to spend money putting a 24v into a 12v truck? It's so much easier getting power out of a 12v. If you want a 24v truck, just buy a 24v truck.

The reason they want the 24v head is airflow.

Ya I know they want the air-flow but a larger turbo increases airflow too

Well what I'm saying is if he wants a 24v just buy the whole truck. For the ammount its gonna cost to swap a 24v and get it running he could have a 500hp 12v vs a stock-*** 24v in his 12v-truck

Just because you put a a big charger on an engine with low airflow in and out of the combustion chamber doesn't mean it will make power. You will get big boost numbers though to some people that's all they want.

a 24v head does not flow more in all cases
