Yes there APPEARED to be marks where the blade hit the housing (though I'm not positive.. Im not a turbo expert).

Why would the thrust bearing decide to go, and is it fixable?

Well they go fast when you bark the charger time and time again. Going from 40 psi to 0 over and over will take its toll on the thrust bearing.

Another way would be oil flow make sure you have good oil flow into the charger.

The thrust bearing is just like the thrust bearing the crankshaft of the motor, its 180* bearing.

Well the only thing done to my truck, as of 2 weeks ago is fp thats only 3/4 forward and afc 3/4 forward, intake and exhaust. Before i did this stuff the truck was BONE ass stock.

So assuming how much is that bearing and how easy is it to fix? How PROBABLE is it that I can replace that bearing?

if you have been making the turbo bark that is probably the cause of the smoked bearing, when the turbo barks the turbo is reversing direction, which aint good for it, i would probably have a shop rebuild it that knows what they are doing turbos spin over 100k and need to be precicly put back together

Well I got a buddy on this site who's a beast and can prob help out. Can I for sure replace that bearing? Or do I replace the entire impeller? How much would the part I need to replace be?

wes-cummins 04-04-2010 08:00 PM

if the impeller is fine and housing is fine then you can just replace the bearings,
if you do try to repuild it your self make sure that both impellers go back on the shaft the same way they came off if one turbine isnt put on the same way it will be way out of balance and smoke the bearings again, and fill it up with oil b4 you start the truck, and dont spin it much when the bearings are dry

What I'm asking tho is What is the name of the piece I should buy and how much is it? I kinda wanna buy the hx40 and rebuild my HX35 then sell the hx

wes-cummins 04-04-2010 08:21 PM

best thing to do is go to a parts store and order a complete bearing kit., just replace all of the bearings in it, there is atleas one thrust bearing and 2 shaft bearings

85_305 04-04-2010 08:32 PM

Oh so just order a whole hx35 rebuild kit then? Ok I'll see if my buddy can do that before I order lol. Thanks for the help man

Good excuse to upgrade and if you need the truck asap nothin easier than just bolting one on vs hopeing a rebuilt kit is all the 35 needs...
