Hardest part was soldering the new brushes. Would do it again over and over, thats $100 that I dont have to spend on a diff starter.

What kind of solder and iron did you use? I have a household radioshack special pretty much.

You are much better off repairing your OEM starter than replacing it with junk new parts. Lets face it, new parts are junk.

Well I guess I'll let you guys know how bad I wish I had bought an entire starter for in a week or so after I attempt to rebuild this one

All i have is a cheapo radio shack soldering iron... where can I buy somethign better for cheap or loan one from?

I've replaced the solenoid contacs and plunger a couple of times, but never the brushes. Are you sure you need them too? The contacts are just 15 minutes to change once you have the starter out, no soldering to do.

Well I'm not POSITIVE I need to do the brushes; but I'll be damned if I pull the starter and the brushes are shot too and I didn't order them. I'd rather rebuild the entire starter now and never have to worry about it again

So the plunger and contacts takes 15mins?

I rebuilt my first one and the second one came from Foster Truck.New starter with all of Larry B's parts installed and its been on the truck for now 120k.
