Default hx40 a good turbo upgrade?

Just curious if the hx40 is a good upgrade from the stock hx35? Only mods planned are fp, sw, intake, exhaust, boost elbow, and some stage 1 or 2 sticks. Thats IT. Just wondering if the 40 will clean up the heat and smoke produced by these few mods well enough to be fun and reliable.

upon more research I'm gonna have to do a lot to upgrade the turbo; head studs, o rings, gasket, etc.. I'd still like to know if its a good turbo, but I'm not going to do all that work.

that stuff isnt necesarry until your at about 50+ psi of boost. head studs are good to 70 or 80 psi depending on the studs. i have an hx40 on mine and i dont have any of that stuff and its fine

hx40 would be good, its not a huge turbo, you might consider doing the 35/40 hybrid.

Thanks for the input guys. So an hx 40 would be a good enough turbo to control smoke from some stage 1 or even stage 11 sticks? Or would I not need another turbo if I keep the sticks small?

if you keep them small and dont max out your pump you should be ok with the stocker. i got pretty big sticks in mine with my pump maxed and my hx40 is just about right for all that fuel.

but if your not gonna max out your pump with small injecotrs, its probably not even worth it to get the injectors. youll probably gain just as much power crankin your pump up than a small set of injectors with a stock or semi stock pump

Well I'm already doing a 5 plate, afc tuning, boost elbow, intake, exhuast, and gsk. I think with 40-80hp injectors I'll be happy for a long time. But I'm not sure if I can do all those things with me 205 pump without needing a bigger turbo?

The 35/40 Hybrid will be good for your setup. Bigger injectors than what you listed above and you should run a larger huffer.

So with stage II 40 or 80hp sticks the stock turbo will control the fuel and egts fine?

It'd be pushing it...watch the EGT's because it would get hot very quick. HX35/40 Hybrid would be fine, but will still reach high EGT's in a hurry. HX40 would be good for that setup. If you're planning to add more mods in the future, there are too many variables to be specific as to which turbo would be best, because it'll will evolve with the added upgrades. You can build a turbo to match the engine's power levels and type of driving. You'd be surprised what a few mm's of impeller diameter or blade pitch will affect. Off the shelf turbos are only good if you can fine tune them with different housings/wheels, having a custom turbo built to your specs is the right way to go.

his truck isnt even pushing a quarter of the fuel mine does, and he can light that charger right up. thats what i woukld do
