Does advancing the timing help out a lot?
thats not exactly somethign I was wanting to dive into myself, and upon calling the local diesel shops I've heard from 1k-1500-3000 for them to bump my timing 16* and do the KDP fix. Un-Real..
So what kind of gains and potential are released by bumping the timing 16* when you do basic mods on these cummins (gsk, fuel plate, intake, exhaust, etc..) |
Snap-on sells the kit you need to do your own timing for $199.00 (sp500) that way it is yours and you can advance timing as mods increase. Bought a tab from a local guy for a buck.
I understand you can get the kits cheap, but I really dont want to mess with tearing the front end apart, the grill, crossmember, front cover, then worrying about tdc and all that. Too much for me with too few parts and too little space, plus I'm busy and cant afford to mess anything up and lose my truck for a few days or few weeks.
EDIT: UNLESS of course there are significant power/mileage gains to be had... |
You can make your own kdp fix, you just have to make a washer. Advancing the timing helps out alot, makes the truck run smoother and does increase power quite a bit. $1000 is ridicolous and surely you can find somewhere that does it cheaper than that. Your always welcome to drive down to NC.
Sheeeit I just left Fort Bragg. I've had enough "nc" to last me a lifetime. How much would you charge to do the kdp and bump the timing 16*? I have family in the fayetteville area.
$1000 ?:ouch: thats a ripoff...
That was the cheapest one.. this other diesel shop said THREE GRAND to do the kdp and timing!!!
16* is a good starting point, and 1k is way high for only an hours worth of work
The shops quoted me for 8-10hours of work
What I'm asking though is what kind of gains come with advancing the timing? What kind of performance and economy gains? |
you should get better fuel MPG's with a performance gain as well
