Default 12v performanced tuning

Just got the truck back from ddps dyno and it was not at all what I wanted so thought I could get some info from the pros. So to start with the dyno 225hp 585torque and was smoky so I started with adjusting the wastegate to 30psi and now am hunting for some more mods to get some more power thinking of injectors and gov springs but ddp says it needs a turbo to clean up smoke and keep egts cool but I cant afford that on top of the other parts and was wondering if you guys think the stock turbo can keep up with the 50hp ddps and 3gsk and possibly afc tuning so what do I do

htt has a upgrade for the hx35 that will make alot more power...reasonably priced to.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

STAGE III 400 hp UPGRADE COMPRESSOR HOUSING AND 60mm High Flow WHEEL - 95-02 DODGE/CUMMINS
$275.00 (housing and wheel only)

This upgrade converts your stock HX35W turbo to our most popular HX35/HX40 hybrid turbo.
It increases the air flow capacity of your stock turbo to match the increased fuel flow of performance fuel injectors and performance chips.
Your stock compressor wheel measures 54mm. This is a 6-blade wheel measures that 60mm on the inducer. It also features a larger "major" diameter for optimal flow. This wheel flows more air and it helps reduce EGT's even further.
In order to use this upgrade on HX equipped 99-02 model years, you might want to purchase our Stage 3.5 or you will need one of our

High Tech Turbo

the stage 3 will keep up with the 50hp injectors and 181's pretty decently.

Yah I've considered it but ddp said it would take me to about 310hp but not help egt and be a waste of money but I've seen lots of people running more than 375hp so not sure what to do

Save up for a bigger turbo to move more air then.....more fuel is not going to help if it's already smokey and putting the fire out. It needs more cool air to use the fuel you have. I have a feeling DDP says it's a wastes because they aren't selling the kit.

i think that you should be making more power than you are, with that here are a few questions

what brand Dyno was the truck put on?

what is your timing?

can you post up a dyno graph?

you can run up to 35psi safely, if you do that does the smoke clear? if it doesn't i would look into boost leaks.

if you up the psi then it should give you a good bump in the pants.

to make my case with my 1996 1 ton auto, on a dynojet 224XLC and with stock injectors, stock delivery valves, stock timing, 100 plate, stock manifold and turbo, 4" exhaust and an intake i put down 250/625 through a Goerend Bros. Transmission.

With your waste gate only set to 20psi on teh dyno I would bet that was teh problem, no air. running the 30psi now should net you a crap load more power.

Agreed on the 30psi getting you some more hp. Save up for a 62/68 or a 62/71, I believe you would be more happy with one of those than with a HX35/HX40 hybrid. 4K gov. springs will make the truck alot more fun to drive also but until you get a turbo, you shouldnt be set on gettin any injectors, all injectors will do is make the truck run alot hotter and more smokey. Another thing that will help out tremendously is bumping your timing up to 16 or 16.5

Well I've really been glad to get all the help. I turned the boost up and now making 28psi and it totally cleaned up the smoke. So I think that was the whole problem and now am considering getting injector and 3gsk springs want 4gsk but ddp says they would only do 3gsk if I dont do new valve springs. I desided since it comes with both I would start at 3gsk and work up when I have time to change valve springs. But also realized that my fuel plate was back almost all the way to the firewall and thought maybe it would work better to just turn it up and do 3gsk springs and turbo hybrid then I should stay cool with way better power and also do afc spring and set full fuel max boost Im running. so what would you guys recomend and also forgot to mention timing on pump is 16degrees

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Just went and bout the hx40 compressor wheel and housing from Pure diesel performance as well as the afc spring kit and 3gsk kit desided that with my fuel plate almost set at the lowest setting and no afc mods that I would start with more air and setting the fuel plate more aggressively and drop in the 3gsk springs with the new afc springs and see how it feels then
