any one know of a short shifter for the 94-97 5 speeds?

 

gotta have the top from the 98.5-2002 nv4500 to get the short throw shifter, ours is a round top and the newer 1 is a square

 

but you can switch em?

i thought u could switch them... im just goin by what i heard when i asked the same question

 

i'm pretty sure you can. I just switched to a newer trans with the square top plate hole and MAN what a difference. sooo much smother shifts.

 

does the newer one just bolt up and sit in the same?

 

i'm talking about the whole top plate, and I wish I would have checked it out before I put the new trans in the truck. I believe its been discussed before and the conclusion was it will work. I've had them both off at the same time, although i didn't think to put them side by side. the only contrast i can think of is the farthest rearward fork seemed a little different where it hooked into the thing (sorry don't know what to call it) that moves the 5th gear fork. I could be (and from what i've read, am) wrong.
