what to set my timing at?
All right im sittin here doin all this research on where to set my timing. Heres what i got. its 4x4 5 speed, 1997 with the 215 pump. has the stock fuel plate in it in the stock location. afc has never been opened up so its stock. the air filter is the stock box with a k&n drop in. the exaust is a turbo back 4". Also the tranny and clutch is stock.
Heres what i want for right now.. better mpg. and reliability. dont want it to be hard to start in the cold, or create high cylinder pressures(dont want to pop a head gasket). also dont want anything that will be hard on the engine.... so
should i set it at 15* 15.5* or 16* or 16.5*
and will this help my mpg at all? how bough power.. right now the truck is set at 13.5*

Go for 16*. It was hard as hell to get the truck set at 15 or 15.5, then it slipped, but i've been perfect at 16*.
Mike
*just a warning* you will mess up your clutch with the timing at 16* and star screw full foward

alright so 2 of you in agreament i should put it at 16,, so does anyone know if it should help or hurt my mpg? i wont do it unless it will help me out there. Im not realy doin it for power because i am still runnin my stock clutch.
mileage should go up bud; you get a more complete burn and utilize more engergy of the fuel that is injected. Which translates into not needling as much pedal/rack movement to get the same results as before. less pedal input= less fuel delivered and more mpg
