x2 Just use your stock tube and get a AFE filter or such and make a cheap heatshield. Way cheaper!

 

After doing my own test with 4 different types of air boxes on a dyno the best one I found was a AFE Stage 2 with the inverted top filter or "Mega-Cannon" as it was called.I also tried all four of AFE's filters for the Stage 2 searching for the best number on the jet that day and it was the Mega-Cannon by 7hp over the Pro-Guard 7.The standard AFE filter which came with that box was next and the worst flowing and HP killing filter was their Pro-Dry S which robbed 14hp out of my truck.Even the Stage 2 AFE with the Pro-Dry S as bad as it took power out was better than the S&B and the most pityfiul one the AEM Brute Force Dry.

So all of them went down the road but my Stage 2 AFE and its still in the truck today.They claim it has to do with the way the filter and torque tube drops down from the big 6" diameter to the 4" diameter of the turbo that helps flow and power.Whatever the reason is,it flat out works and that box is still in my truck today........Andy

 

what's wron with just clamping the filter right on the intake of the turbo and not use a tube?

 

I would assume nothing except it would probably be sucking up quite a bit of hot air but I've seen a couple compound turbo set ups and they have the filter clamped right onto the turbo

when you were testing did you try any filters rated for 1000+cfm? I'm looking for a filter that can keep up I have a afe stage 2 with the pro guard 7 now ... and the s465 sucks the sides of the filter in

 

No I did not try any of the dry filters that claim to flow 1000+cfm.I am not a big dry filter fan so after the dry filters that I tried did so poorly I jst stayed with the one I have and never used anything else.

Someone asked about just hooking to the hose....
You could do that if you wanted I guess.I prefered to not have my air filter pulling in the exhaust heat and wanted to at least try for some cool fresh air.

 

i guess you're right except it seems to me that the heat would be moving back,away from the front of the turbo.mine just has a rubber tube clamped to a piece of pipe with the filter clamped to the end.with that type of system do you thing i would be better worse or no difference to put it right on the turbo?

 

I've got an afe stage two, and banks twin ram and i like it.

 

I just installed the S&B and am very happy with it... fit and finish are good and the filter is nice.

The owner of my local shop dynoed his truck back to back with the S&B and AFE and made the same hp. so he sold his afe and stuck with the s&b
