i believe there r 2 sets, 1 that requires rocker milling and another that dont here...

a1 studs= The A1 studs DO NOT require machining the rockers for proper clearance. They are full length and only some grinding on the valve cover is needed.

arp studs= Machining of the rockers is required for the installation of the ARP studs.

If you didn't back them out 1/4 of a turn then you're kind of silly. It's putting to much load on the threads in the block. ARP knows what you should do with THEIR product and the right installation procedure. I'm milling mine this week.

I was gonna say. I put ARP's in my 97 before it blew up, and there was no way I was putting mine in without milling the towers, they wouldn't have threaded enough. I'm installing some this coming weekend on a buddies 98 12V, and I'll see if its even possible to get them fully threaded on without milling the towers. I know on mine the top of the stud was maybe a 1/16" past the nut once it was torqued, and I milled mine to spec. If I hadn't of milled them, there wouldn't have been much thread holding them on. Did you bottom tap the holes in the block to make sure you were hitting bottom?

I got 2questions? Since ARP messed up making them, isn't there a way you can trade them straight up? And also, if you do some milling wouldnt that make the pedistal weaker?

ARP did not "mess up" making them, that's the way it is. No milling the towing does not make them weaker all you are doing it knocking the corner down. It reetains all of its strength.

I know many people including 3 of my local friends that installed the studs without milling a single thing. They just left out the washer. And the nut thread on the stud with an 1/8 inch above the nut. Not one problem ever. That's the way we did them with great luck
