Default Boost Gauge wiring...

Here in about 1 more Stoli & Cranberry... I am going to try to wire up the lights on my Boost gauge.

Is there any tips on finding the "slot" on my fuse box I need or is it a general hit and miss operation?

That's hilarious!

Well I just pulled my dimmer switch out. I think its the two wire connector on the side... I will try to trace this wire and check it out. My Cheap Chinese wire tester is broken. Hey... at least only two people died making that thing...

Fast posts... thanks guys.

Right... Hate to see anyone die over something you could call Quality.

Well I had some light there for a second... it dimmed opposite - when the dash went dim it went bright & visa-versa. Then I couldn't get anything after I disconnected that and started to plug away some more... will have to check the bulb tomorrow. Visibly the filament is still good... not sure where to plug it in. I left it all hanging out like my dash threw up - hopefully I will get it going tomorrow.

I sure wish someone had a photo of a 97 dimmer switch hook-up for a boost gauge. Not too specific huh?

Anyone know which is the Dimmer Hot Wire?

Get a fuse tap like this

FUSE TAP ATC SPADE (LARGE) [FUSE IN TAP DELUXE VERSION]*::*CIGARETTE LIGHT PLUG ACCESSORIES & FUSE TAPS*::*Car Video, Entertainment & Navigation*::*AUTOTOYS (note, this is not necessarily the one you need - I just googled it)

and run the lighting from your fuse panel. I can remember off the top of my head which fuse I used but use your test light to figure it out. Run it off of the fused side.

Hee hee... Thats funny. Yep - I needed it!

I would be happy with a Hot wire that turns off at this point. I don't want to keep hit and missing again... well wait a minute - No that would be fine - I have plenty of more firewater for tonight. it only takes me about two and I am all smiles. Much unlike when I was younger.

Well I found the wire...

If anyone is interested in finding the Dimmer wire... Pull the fuse cover - find the one that is listed as ILLUM and touch it with the tester while dimming the lights. It should dim up and down... I then pulled the 12' x 24" (or so) panel from below the steering column and found the wire coming out of the top of the backside of the ILLUM fuse... It was solid orange and had about 3-4inches to work with (I tested it first and it dimmed...). I tapped in there and had my ground already ran to a dash frame screw and BINGO... the Gauge now dims and brightens with the headlight control.

Guess you didnt like my suggestion. I prefer not to tap into the oem wire whenever I can avoid it.
