Default Injection pump removel and install help please

Hey guys

I'm replacing my pump with a maxed out used on and I'm kinda lost on how to do the timing and everything. I have read a ton of threads and each one seems like they say to do it different.

So I need the dial indicator and take out one of the DVs ? From what I was told the guy that had this tuned and maxed out the time was set at 20 degrees.

I don't have head studs yet. My truck is just a hybrid hx40 turbo truck 120hp injectors. Looking at my harmonic balancer it does have a couple marks on it from what looks like someone might of adjusted the timing on my truck.

Is there a difference between pump timing and engine timing ?

I read about pinning the pump, if I do that would I be setting it back to stock timing ?

Hope your can put some light on this for me. Also I will be installing some 025 DVs and 4k springs and rack plug.

Thanks !

maxeed out pump. hillarious. anywhoo did this guy have a pump shop build the pump and change the timing tab location in the pump or is it at the stock location? this is going to be a BIG thing for you. because if the pump pin times @ say 20 degrees and you think it is stock and advance it say 6 more from your OE 12.5 degrees now your at 26* and you probably wont keep the head on your truck very long.

so yes you will either need a pump shop to verify timing or buy a dial indicator and go through #1 plunger and figure out what your pump is doing.

take it all apart
install the gauge
roll the engine over until the gauge is bottomed out. set it to zero!
not pin time the engine and read the thingermabod you put in the pump. look at the handy sheet that is supplied with most of these gauges or ask real nice and figure out how many degrees the pump is advanced over TDC of the engine. its not super hard but easier with two people. one to turn the engine over and one to read the gauge.

chances are the pump tab is in the stock location. in which case to advance it the pointer will be pointing down when it is advanced.
