Default Need help choosing

I have a 2000 F250 with a 7.3. I am doing a 12 valve conversion and it is time to choose the engine. Here is what I know, I want a 12 valve (no computers), I know not to get a 53 block. My questions are what years are the better years for cummins? What are things to look for when looking for a used cummins ie. star gear turned, fuel plate replaced. Thanks for your help.

any 12 valve block will work just fine for you, if you plan on doing a twin charger set up go with the 96-98 block as it already has the secondary oil drain.

12 valves do not have the secondary oil drain. I have a 97 and twins. I had to add the 2nd oil drain. 24v on the other had have it.

The 98's have it I guess. Since they used the same block for the 12 & 24 valve

Yup 98 12v blocks do have the secondary oil drain. Everything I have seen before that year does not have a 2nd drain though.
