Knock, knock......injector, valve, piston, what else??????

This is what was done to it during the build.

-New injectors 5x.016 dual feed made by JL Machine w/ 145 degree spray angle

-188/220 Hamilton cam

-24 valve tappets

-Mild head work by Hamilton cams. Valve job mild port and polish. Installed HD springs by Hamilton

-HD push rods by Hamilton

-stock head gasket

-tabbed KDP

-No previous block work done and Hamilton assured the head didnt have enough taken off to have the cam interfere w/ anything.

Any ideas of the issue based on the video below?

Listened to a few youtube videos on injector knock and it sounded similar. Others have said possible timing off, but I have checked that. Currently timed at 18 degrees and both timing pins line up.

Thanks for any input.

Listen to video.

See if that works

Yes, the timing is set t 18 degrees from pump shop. All timing pins line up.

ddnt work either, im on a dinosaur computer tho. Ok timing makes sense, kinda hard to screw that up then. haha Has bottom end been untouched? Have you traced noise down to a certain cylinder? whats valve lash set at?

bradaneal 03-07-2013 09:22 PM

Bottom end has not been touched as far as I know. I just bought the truck Dec 2011 with 280k on it. It was all stock when I got it and when we opened the top end up nothing appeared "messed" with.

I used the stethoscope and couldn't pin it down to a certain cylinder. Injector fuel line nuts seems to be loudest areas. All of them had same sound though.

Valve lash set at 10 and 20 per alldata and Hamilton Cam instructions.

have you tried cracking the nuts one by one with engine running and see if it clears up on a certain cylinder? I got vid to work, how long did it run before it started that or was it instant?

RanchhandTCR 03-07-2013 09:30 PM

hmm, I would crack open injection lines to start simple to see if its a fuel knock. But like miller said can you trace it to a certain spot.

bradaneal 03-07-2013 09:31 PM

Cracked injector side one at a time. Injector 6 seemed to not clear out as easily as the others but did finally seems ok. No less of a knock though. Also cracked at injection pump side and they were all good.

MillerBoyzDiesel 03-07-2013 09:34 PM

The ones that cleared out would indicate the prob. cylinders. if all cleared out would have to think its injector related.
