Default bought junk

just bought an 06 5.9....after142 mile drive home, white smoke at start, blow by ,and vibration under acceleration.truck has 140,000 and just found out that it already has a re-man motor.i am going to have an in frame done, and have injectors tested, but what can i do to keep the apparent gremlins off my truck after repairs?this makes me sick be cause i just sold my 02 with 270,000 trouble free miles.I dont want to lose faith in cummins, but my wallet may force my hand.

just realized i posted in wrong place.sorry.truck is stock,140,000,motor has a p.n. leading back to mopar long block.oil out of breather tube,3'' puddle while idling for few minutes.oil cap dancing at idle.lot of white smoke at start up till up to temp.smells of unburnt fuel.assuming rings...cant figure out how dumb ya gotta be to smoke 2 motors with that few of miles unless original owner had too much tune, and too little sense.cat find any evidence of gauges in truck, and i want to head off any issues that may have caused this just in case it was computer or injectors that created this.i am realizing quickly that this is a different animal than my 02!fully intend to install tuner, but really dont know which direction to go,i want a heads up display, and reliability.not gonna race it,just want reliability and mpg...how do i move this thread?

i very much like the Smarty programmer for the common rails.

sounds like you deff. have a cyl. down. a bad injector can cause major engine problems in a 610 engine. Basically like the problems youre having. You may have a injector that went bad and is overfuelling and filling the crankcase with diesel causing the oil out of the breather tube and the white smoke, vibration etc. Have you checked the oil level? Id pull injectors and inspect them, might have to send them out if you cant see nothing wrong externally. Use a scan tool and see wich cyl. is down and at very least have that injector tested and run a compression check on that cyl.

oil pressure good and steady.looked like sooty car oil, went to rotella t6 and have not noticed it "making"oil.figured while it was appart id send head out and injectors.BUT...is there a better ring design than stock, and is there an injector upgrade available.i do not want to build this thing and junk it again because i could have been a little more diligent in my parts selection....did i mention i miss my 02!does the smarty have a display for the pillar?and are there software problems?a friend is telling me to go with edge attitude with juice?i ran a superchip on my 02 and had good luck, but as isaid, this aint my 02

smarty is a programmer only, no display. there are diff. piston designs that change the location of the top ring land but stock pistons and rings have been proven time and again to be tough however, Improper tuning or engine operation can ruin anything. I personally love smarty tuners, the only other tuning I would buy over a smarty is efi live.

2 micron fuel filtration is what you want. Baldwin makes the filters

Someone on staff will move it for you.
