Default Bad Engine? 6.7 ltr Cummins

Noticed a strong oil smell, climbed under and there is (what looks like smoke) smoke coming out of the rubber vent hose next to the base. Also engine noise seems a little off. Bad news probably, 250,000km. Any ideas or suggestions how to narrow down the problem?

No, the oil is right where it should be.( Its a 5.9 ltr not the 6.7. ) I am having it looked at tomorrow at the dealer. Heard of dropped valves in bigger cummins but not this one. Anybody seen the 5.9 with broken valve?

early model 5.9. Pull the oil fill cap and just place it on the hole if it jumps around then you have a problem if it sits there and doesn't move your ok!A broken ring would do that and is possible!
