If you plan on towing heavy the 3500 if not the 2500 is fine. 2006 was the best year "PRE SmoG" 07 also if it doesn't have the smog crap.

07 just because that's what I got I searched for almost a year for my 07 because I wanted the 5.9 so it doesn't have the dpf and all the emission crap of the 6.7 plus I like the headlights on the 07 better then the 06. Not sure if there are any differences between them but my train of thought the new the better because it gave Dodge more time to work the little bugs out.

06 is the best year in my opinion, pre smog and emissions and it has the high output cummins engine......and if your not hauling anything the 2500 would be a better choice

The 06 would be the way I would go. But the 07 is a good truck also. That is the year they went to 6.7 that Eng is a little different than the 5.9. They have the bugs worked out of them now. They had a hard time setting the brain box when they first came out. Now they have it wright. So both are good Eng. == GOOD LUCK ==

It is up to you! If you are doing a lot of up hill starts a auto would be better like a boat ramp! Heavy hauling stick.

Just an FYI they make 07 5.9's. They didn't start the 6.7 until 07.5.

^^^^ True.....People are going to tell you the best year is whatever they own! Don't be afraid of the auto. You can always have the extra springs or air bags added to a 2500 to extend the loading capacity. However, you will still legally be restricted to the door tag weights.
