Default 2006 Dodge 3500 - Smoking/Knocking

My Cummins has 125,000.
I pull 10,000 lbs regularly, responsibly.
I never rawhide/lug the engine.
Manual transmission (6-speed)
Turbo
5.9 Liter

Edited: I failed to inform that I had the computer run a diagnostic and the code came up "P0305 - Number 5 cylinder misfire" and the engine is starting to run real sluggish.

This is the first diesel I have ever owned, therefore I know not a lot of the workings of a diesel. Please forgive my ignorance.

There is a strong blowby through the valve cover tube of white smoke (oil is being blown out through tube in liquid and smoke form).

A knock has progressively gotten worse to a, now, constant knock with constant smoke. I have been told it could be either, broken ring (for smoke), cracked piston, or even a hole in the top of piston (for knock).

Others have told me it could be a bearing.

When I increase the rpms it clears with a black smoke, mixed with a bit of white. But when the truck is accelerating it is a steady white smoke.

It is not losing any coolant.

I am on a VERY limited budget (who isn't) with $0 dollars. Maybe I am looking for clarification as to where i should attack first. I will have to do this work in my driveway, and it is cold, so I want to make sure I will be attacking in the right direction.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Allen

Most likely an injector went bad and if it isnt already too late, your cyl. is gonna be all scored up too...check the injectors ASAP. Then if they are fine, start looking into why the misfire.

Yeah thats what I was thinking as well. More than likely number 5 injector is hung up if you have a number 5 misfire

We also killed the injectors, one by one, and even though the code was giving a fault to #5, it was #6 that never varied.
The knock, along with the white/blue smoke, is indicative of a rod knock/bad rings/. IMO. However, like I said...I am not versed on diesels, just guessing from the noise from the bottom of the motor.

Thanks yall!!

I think a injector hung open and torched a hole in a piston and that would be the cause your blow by. I would check it with a bore scope through the injector port
