Default New truck prob with mpg's need input

Ok so I just bought a 05 ram 2500 cummins. It has a 4 inch lift( so the last owner told me but it looks like a 6 inch) Dr performance single stage chip. 35 inch tires everything else is stock. I calculated the MPG's Im getting around 9.7. Now this doesnt sound right. Could the speedo be off? The dude did maint at a Dodge dealership. It has 64k miles. Any ideas? Im new to diesels by the way.

9.7 mpg you would have to have liquid diesel running out of the tial pipe or a tremendous amount of smoke i would think, I would recalculate my MPG again and make sure the Odometer is correct, I have heard of some 14-15 mpg but never 9 but my 2003 is my first diesel and I am still learning myself. lots of upgrades and more to come.
