Default Which tranny should i go with?

So i had some tranny problems last Nov in my 04.5 cdt it didnt want to shift from first to second until the rpms got really high and i had to let of the trottle then i would shift really hard so I pulled the tranny pan to change the filter and fluid and found a ring well half of a ring in the pan not sure what it does or where it goes but I know its not supposed to be there so I figured good time for a rebuild or a new tranny so the truck has been sitting for a year I now have the money to replace the whole tranny and torque converter I just need some suggestions on which way to go on new tranny and converter any help would be great.

This ring in which you speak... was it, uh, magnetic? Stuck to the bottom of the pan? Just kidding, I'm sure that you're not THAT dumb!

Haha no I'm not that dumb I'm guess it was part of a clutch or something cause it doesn't want to shift out of first very easy it was about the size of a soft ball or just a hair bigger if it was in one piece it was stuck to the magnet
