Default tranny question

it's me again. i found a differrent 2004 cummins. it has 120xxx miles on it. it has a aFe intake and an aero trubine muffler on it. other than that i believe it's stock. it is an auto tranny. i am just wondering if i should be concerned about that. when i test drove it, it seemed liked it shifted smooth and it didn,t slip. i think it's a stock tranny. i just don't know what the average life is for a stock tranny. thanks for the input.

Depends on what you intend to do with it and what has already been done with it. If it shifts good now thats a good sign. I would invest in a shift kit and a few other parts to address the OE shortcomings right away then plan any additions around want you want to do with power and use.

i don't have a clue what it was used for. it has a flat bed with some hay inbedded in the headache rack. so i'm assuming it was a ranch truck. as far as what i'm going to do with it. is probably going to consist of hauling hay and equipment. and power wise.i'm going to put a smarty on it. and a 4 inch turbo back exhaust. nothing extreme tho. if i get it anyways. say the tranny does go out. what is a good company to rebuild it?

Suncoast, DTT, BD, or Goerend Bros.

Damn thats crappy. id shoot for the 6spd g56 tho unless you want to go fast then the auto and the sun-coasts are the best in that neck of the woods in my opinion. the only downfall with the 6spd is the dualmass flywheel and clutch but south bend takes care of that. Also it sounds great when yer rowing through the gears also, thats minus the silencer ring and a straight pipe. Good luck in your search get under the truck and check all the u joints too

yeah. that's what i really want. going fast is nice but i out grew that at least a week ago. but idealy i would like an 04 -07 with the 5 or 6 speed with the manual 4x4 shift the hell with the electric bs. crew cab long bed. dually or single wheel. really no preference there. if you or any one else knows where a decent priced one is. let me know. i'll go outta state if i have to.
