Default 48re on the outs?

So, after 500mi of my ownership, looks like I am already having serious problems with my 48re.

It was hunting, and shuddering under heavy acceleration in 3rd... butnow i've got some new symptoms.

Started hard shifting from drive to reverse and back (completely stopped), and yesterday I went to leave work and the truck wouldnt go while in drive... gave it a bit of gas, nothing... more gas, nothing... before the engine returned to idle the truck slammed into 1st.

My question is...

from my very limited knowlege it sounds like some of these symptoms could definatly be caused by servo, valve body, torque converter... but if those things are the problems, can driving around with the symptoms physically harm the transmission itself? Eg, I'd be able to swap those parts in, but still have a transmission that'll go any day?

I had it to the dealer I bought the thing from and they said they talked to a dodge dealer that says... "if the truck sits for 48hr, up to 3 seconds of being in drive and not driving is not alarming".

If infact bits of the tranny's internals get fixed, should I immediately go for a stronger valve body?

Looks like you need one of Dave transmissions: Goerend Transmission Incorporated

it'd be nice, but I think I am going to have to choose something cheaper =( I just dont have that kinda money on hand at the moment =(

Anything else I can do? At this point I've got an appt tues for a tranny inspection (200 bucks deductible if tranny is deemed bad by dodge dealer, otherwise I pay for all diagnosis etc).

I am halfway wondering if a tranny service would be more cost effective if it is infact not a problem. (and dont get tranny repaired by dodge)

Hmmmm.... Yeah the Portland, OR area may be a bit too much of a drive. I would highly recommend Lake Oswego Transmission Unlimited if that wasn't the case!

If I were you, I would at least call Dave @ Goerends and talk to him about the issues you are having. I also got some great quotes from our wonderful venders in regards to complete trans shipped to me. I hope you get it taken care of soon! Having a health trans really makes the truck 100x better!

tranny is gone, do it right and do it once, and i doubt it's under warranty due to the year but if it is consider yourself lucky, dave makes some of the best transmissions around, even his lower end transmissions are way better than the factory could ever have dreamed of

If it's deemed ok by the dealer put a valve body 600. and TQ 1200. in it that should last for a while!!
But I agree call Dave!! He'll give you what you need in your price range!

Anything that gets done to that tranny by anybody is going to cost waaaaay more than $200. If you can get it repaired, even to stock for $200, I'd jump on that and save up for a better unit somewhere down the road in case it ever craps out again.
