Waste Gate Code

Waste Gate Code
2005 2500 4 door 4x4 with Banks 6 Gun, Banks intercooler, Banks Superscoop-airbox-intake, 5" exhaust turbo back. Check egine light came on and wastegate actuator was the code. I was going to order a new Big Head wastegate actuator and was told they do not make one for 2005. The 2005 is a different turbo. Truck is sluggish and only makes 20-22 lbs of boost. Looking at the turbo I see a wastegate and an electric solenoid. Help!

Electronic solenoid is bad and stuck open. A small pair of vice grips on the boost reference hose will cure the sluggish boost problem. You can either order a new solenoid, or, get a WG fooler from II or HTT and add a boost elbow to control boost.
I have been running mine that way for over a year. I just use my right foot to control boost and keep it at 40 psi or under.

Boost elbow is just a fitting with an allen screw in it to adjust the amount of boost being applied to the WG actuator. Crank the screw in farther and the later the WG opens. You can get them off of Ebay all the time.
Call Industrial Injection, HyTech Turbo, or other turbo buildersd and they should be able to get you one. Its just a resistor that will fool the ECU into thinking it is still hooked to the solenoid. Turns off the CEL. You could build yourself one with a $1 resistor from Radio Shack if you can find the right size.
