Im gettin my truck back from the tranny shop at the end of the week and I wanna hook up some kind of extra tranny cooler on it since I run my truck really hard and pull some pretty heavy loads and even tho I might not need it, it would make me feel alot better havin one on it... Y'all got any ideas?? Also what would be a safe tranny temp and what would be a not so safe temp?

 

I believe around 180. is optimal periods over 300 is very bad! Check this out: Transmission Oil As far as what to install first see what your temps are under load and then find and measure a spot you want to use any auto parts will carry a bunch of different size coolers!

 

A deep pan like the MagHytec or Derale is a great way to go. The extra fluid capacity alone is worth it and they are easy to install. If you want to beef it up even more add a bypass filter to help keep the extra fluid cleaner as well. The stock filter inside the pan only runs around a 250um rating and autos can make alot of clutch and metallic debris that ends up in the pan and filter or circulating in the fluid, wearing away at the internals. If the filter slows or clogs while towing it's game over.

you really should have a by-pass inline with that filter. If your filter gets clogged, you're going to have issues.




cummins153624 I don't know if you've seen this posted elsewhere but, it's my remote trans cooler. I eliminated the aux. cooler and put this in it's place. For me, it works great but, I don't tow anything. Racing I'll see a max of 190F. You never want to see anymore than 220F in your trans fluid temps. Anything higher than that and you're boiling the fluid.

It's a Derale Atomic cooler. It comes with a thermo but, I didn't use it. I installed a switch in the cab to turn it on/off when I want.

 

What makes you think it's not a byass?

 

triton i like your setup and i would like to do something like that but i just dont know where to mount it... if i put it under the truck it would get packed with mud because since i work in the oilfield everywhere i go is offroad and it might get a stick shoved through it also since i drive through alot of brush. does anyone sell a bypass filter kit or do i gotta make my own??

the one main reason i want acooler is because i live in south texas and in the summer down here its very normal to see 110* outside and alot of the loads i pull are in excess of 20,000lbs and sometimes very close to 30,000lbs and i wanna do everything possible to keep this new trans alive as long as possible
