Have you got a floor shifter or a switch to engage the 4x4?? Does it go into 4 low, or rather 4 wheel drive??

My service 4x4 light was on. I was changing the fluid in it and had the key in the on position. I added new fluid to it light was still on I cleared the codes using my bully dog never came back. I'm not sure if it was the fluid being low or because i also unplugged the wires from transfer case to make sure they was in good shape..... Check your wires and Fluid make sure they are ok if any are broken then repair as needed.
I have the Electronic transfer case with **** no lever

yepp going to have to climb under it and check the wires to the actuator on the transfer case. that is where i would start. Also try this
turn key in on position engine off hook set belt to stop Chime
turn switch to 4hi you should hear it switch Positions
then turn to 4 lo you should hear it change again.
then turn back to 2wd
listen for the actuator struggle to make the change from 2wd to 4hi to 4lo
