rusty oil sustance

Just changed mine 2 weeks ago and the pump was $49 from napa and thats a new pump not a remaned. Doesn't take long to change and the nasty rust color is the corrosion of the coolant and the rust on the block. I also have a friend thats a cummins mechanice at dodge and he also say the pink coolant or the orange is fine to use.

Remove the bolt at the top passenger-side "corner" of the radiator shroud...it collapses like an accordian and makes removing the water pump a lot easier. It will provide all the room you need.
I replaced mine "on the road" (in Fayetteville, NC), at about 175k...took longer to drain the rad and clean up the mess than it did to pull the pump. I used an autozone deal, but they DO NOT list the correct pump in their database (they list the pump for a 454 GM, not a Cummins)...make sure you have the part number if you go that route.
I also bought another as a spare, because I have heard the non-OE replacements tend to fail prematurely...25k later, mine is still fine.
