Default wanting a high idle

How do I get a higher idle without holding my foot on the pedel? I want to bump up my idle for faster warm ups and for extended idle time in winter or when I have to pull over and sleep. Do they sell a kit or something that I can just flip a switch? Can I make something? Oh and I do have an 03 with an Auto trans. Thanks!

There are 3 ways to do it.

1. buy and install an exhaust break - use the break to put load on the motor to generate heat.
2. Buy a smarty box - the ECM flash will give you that ability without you doing anything.
3. Go to dealer and get flashed. On a 2003 this can prove problematic though and I caution against it.

Thanks for the replys. I have a Bully dog Triple Dog and have enabled it and I cant get it to work. I also thought that the 03 and 04 didn't have this option, that it was 04.5 and up that had it . I will to the dealership I used to be a service advisor for and use there DRB. Wat are the precautions I need to watch out for?

All good advice if you had a 04.5 or newer but the manual high idle will not work on 03-04. Sorry. An exhaust brake would work for faster warmup times but it will not increase your idle any and once your water temp hits 172 degrees or thereabouts it will disengage anyway. Your truck does have an auto high idle to 1000 RPM once the ambient temp goes below 32 degrees but it is not controllable with the cruise buttons like the 600/610 series motors with doing a flash by the methods talked about above.

Sorry but if it works on my 2002 with the smarty it will work on the 2003 and up as well. This of course is only a temperature based system and not something as you may be thinking of with the cruise control etc. which of course you said above.

I didn't think it was going to work with any of the factory settings or being flashed. Is there any thing like an add on module or kit that has a user set type control? For now I have a nice 2x2 with a foot on one end and a Y on the other end. I place it between the seat and the throttle pedel, adjust the power seat foward and there ya go. Only problem with that it's going to mess up the seat in the long go of things!

The 2003-04 came from the factory with the temp based high idle enabled with nothing more to be done by the user. I guess I assumed he wanted to control it with the cruise buttons which is not possible except the 04.5-current.

I tried the cruise on my 05 and it did not work. I have to turn it on, press set and then accel or decel right? right now mine is at about 1000 but 1200 would be a little bit nicer am i doing something wrong then?
