If it happens to u. You can take the broke line off, cut it in half, have it welded shut, put it back on. and go to where u can buy a new line. you might could bend it in half and hose clamp it folded to get you off the side of the road.

# 4 injector tube
I just replaced one today , the dealer has a new upgraded clamp with rubber piece instead of the blue clamp . Stopped the tapping noise and won't bust .

Scheid will bend one to order much cheaper than the dealer. Cummins is also much cheaper.

Had the same problem but it cost me an overnight stay and thanks to Northeast Diesel in Conn. I was on the road next day. home was Maine some 5 hrs away. Big disapointment
Cost me big time. I check them all the time now. Took the broken line to a welder and had him weld the flare nut opening closed so if it happens again i can screw it on the rail and run on 5 cylinders for a while till i get help. |
Recent adventure I had with mine.

This is the 3rd time mine has broke the #4 line.
|
I had #4 line break/cracked at fitting going into injector tube. stopped didn't shutoff and opened the hood fuel was shooting over the fender drove it to work 43.00 @ cummins. Replaced it in the parking lot @ work the cummins line had the clamp on it
:tu: |
My #4 line clamp has come loose twice. First time I just tightened the clamp. That lasted a little more than a year. The second time it came loose, I pulled the clamp apart and got a piece of 1/4 inch nylon hose (some of what I had left over from my water/meth injection kit), split it down the middle, slid it onto the injector line where the clamp holds it. I then put the clamp back together, used red loctite and tightened. Its been holding for over 3 years now with not a single problem. Dodged a bullet twice. I check it now and then to make sure its still tight. Worked for me! :yeah:
Its probably a good idea to do even if its never loosened up on you and caused a line failure. Catch it early. |
I had the #4 hose fail on my truck also; I was told that I was lucky because that is one of the cheaper lines to replace, $60 later I didn't feel very lucky.
|
With the high demand for that fail-prone line, Im surprised its not alot more expensive.

Best advice I can give is do NOT buy from Dodge dealer- My local dealer wanted $86 (and had to wait 3 days):td:- I found a Cummins Dealer 14 miles further down the road and they carried it in stock for $24.07:tu:. I did 4 lines for the cost of 1. We will see how well the new design holds up!

my #4 fuel supply line just went out
So I have a fuel leak. It's more of a fuel spray. It looks like it's coming from the #4 fuel supply line. Thanks to this Thread I am pretty confident I know what to order and fix. My question is there any tips I should be using when changing out the line? Do I need to do any bleeding of the lines since I'll be exposing it to air? I am a newbie to the 5.9 but am pretty mechanically inclined. Any advice/tips/tricks is greatly appreciated.

Nothing too special- truck off obviously and don't crank it with the line removed. Just start threading the nuts on by hand to make sure you aren't cross threading and you'll be good to go. I "snugged" mine down and did not torque them to spec. As long as you don't crank down on it you'll be good!

Injector supply spinning
Has anyone had the injector supply line turn in the head when trying to loosen the line?
