Default Axle seal leaking?

I had my truck looked at and they said that a seal on my axle was leaking or something to that extent. What would I need to do to fix this. I have taken the axle out and replaced it but where would that "seal" be? Thanks!

4 wheel drive, seal on the drivers side is next to the diff, the passenger side is next to the vacuum pump that engauges the 4-wheel drive.Note to self you need a diff spreader to remove the pumkin. In order to install the passenger side you have to go thought the drivers side.Put them in square or they will leak.Dont ask me how I know this.

The seals are cheap, the labor on the other hand.I would have it professionlly done, they should have all the tools to do it.Then if it leaks again you will know right away, then they have to fix it.You might want to look at the whole front of the truck and see if there is anything else that needs to be replaced now is the time, they are going to have it mostly apart anyway like ball joints, tie rod ends, hub bearing assembly, you dont want to tear it apart again.Good Luck

Yeah. SO is it an axle shaft seal or a pinion seal? Front or rear axle?

You might check your vent line and make sure it is not clogged. SOmetimes they can plug up and then the internal pressure will force the gear oil past the seals.

Ok lets start here. They told me it was on the front driver side. I asked if I could do it myself and they told me I could. They said all I had to to was remove the axle, pull the old seal out and put the new seal in. I had to put a whole new axle because when I broke the front drive shaft I also broke the cap on the U Joint which warped the C joint on the axle. So there is a whole new axle and a rebuilt front drive shaft which I was told had previous damage before I had it rebuilt which lead to the breaking of the driveshaft.

I am very confused. My grandpa is a mechanic and agreed to help me change my axle seals so I can do it myself. But I called the dealership today and they want $40 for an axle seal!!! There is no way they really cost that much. I was told by a guy who does axle work to get seals from dodge but seriously $40 is just crazy. Can I just get some from napa and call it good?
