Default injectors or worse?

i'm a new member and i have an 04 dodge 4x4 that is blowing smoke and oil pretty bad, about 2 quarts every 500 miles. constant smoke from the crank case vent tube, and if you take off the oil filler cap when running it looks like a train puffing out smoke. lots of black smoke when you get on it. engine has 240,000 miles on it. taking it to the shop for a compression check, does it sound like an injector problem or something more expensive?

Do you have any Diesel Fuel in your Engine Oil?

Sounds to me like your rings might be bad. Time for a rebuild.

My '03 w/ 109k was making blow-by. Pulled the head and there was a 5/15" vertical gouge dead front in #1 cylinder about 0.015"-0.020" and a vertical scratch in #6.

Truck never pulled anything heavy, and was running smoothly and perfectly right up to the head pull.

Cummins tech says LOTS of low mileage engines (just over 100k) have #1 and #6 cylinder problems-no good reason that anyone is aware of.

The main reason for this is high idle times. At 700-800 RPM the truck does not burn all of the fuel that is injected and it washes down the cylinders. This is one of the reasons that they made it possible to set a manual high idle in the third gens with the cruise control. Every time I am going to be idling for more than a minute I kick on the high idle in mine.

Oh there are good reasons for it, usually too much idly and not enough worky. Long idle times will KILL an engine in a relatively short time. Been that way since diesels have been built. All they have to do is compare the engine hours to miless to see where the problems are.
